Million Star Hotel Kym Pitman Each time we step outside it’s a Million Star Hotel Moon on the river, the sun gone down and the heaven’s our protection Let your roots drink deep into the earth, let your heart feel that connection Let the eagle build her nest and fly bringing home to us direction Silhouettes of mountains cut the silver sky Listen to the owl song calling on the night Diamonds of moonlight cast on the water Glistening of water reflected in your soul Chorus Can’t you see the lights of the Million Star Hotel? Can’t you hear the music of the Million Star Hotel? Can’t you feel the heart beat of the Million Star Hotel? You can spend your whole life searching affordable luxury Or lay your swag upon the earth and sleep right here next to me The dawn she will dance for you in colours of awakening As darkness fades beyond the stars with daylight overtaking Chorus Each time we step outside it’s a Million Star Hotel Moon on the river, the sun gone down and the heaven’s our protection Let your roots drink deep into the earth, let your heart feel that connection Let the eagle build her nest and fly bringing home to us direction

Take Away 04:45
Take Away Kym Pitman If you take away, if you take these walls My windows will be just my eyes So I can see everything here now While everything looks in on me chorus There’s nothing to build but a swinging bridge Over the great ravine Looking deep into the heart of things Touch both sides from the space in between And take away, if you take this phone I’ll hear the whipbird and the bellbird ring And I can hear the endless song Of the wind, the thrush and the river And take away, if you take this roof That hides me from the stars I might see through a million years Silent moon gazing on me chorus And take away, can you take this bed So my body lies with the land Tracing the curves in leaf and stone Bones resting deep on the sand If you take away these clothes I wear To keep my body in I might not know where the soil begins Nor ends my flesh and skin chorus But don’t take away, don’t take this earth The blood, the flesh, the heart She calls with her beauty and wild awesome grace...

Fragile and Free Kym Pitman Restless wind - where you blowing this time? You come beating ‘round here like a dusty old storm Bringing your highway to my door And for all that’s left behind I keep chasing the peace of mind You’ll find it in the simple things In a kingfisher’s wings Great egret standing on the billabong So take us on your dusty road to somewhere Through the vast and shifting distance drive us on Love is a desert…it goes further than you see Trust is a desert…fragile and free Restless wind…you stir with the first light … pelican glide And the old comfort and complacency Won’t hold up no more And for all that’s left behind I keep chasing the peace of mind And find it in the simple things… Like dawn on the Cooper creek With the southern Boobook calling Great river red and a Coolabah In colours changing light Love is a desert…it goes further than you see. Trust is a desert…fragile and free

Bronze Wing 03:53
Bronzewing Kym Pitman On a rock in the sky looking out through the eyes of an eagle Back to where we’ve come from and on to where we’ll go Step by step we’ve travelled over hill and gully gorge and pound In the silence heard the sound Of the wind in our faces and the stepping of our feet Over rocks and hills and stubbled land Like a heartbeat in the sand chorus Bronzewing fly… Bronzewing fly Bare my soul to the simple things Eh-eh makes my spirit sing Bronzewing fly streamline to the waterhole on dusk Following in her pathway soft rain settles our dust ’Till here we stand beside the mulga in a light of silent gold Like a story that’s been told The day is fading and the western sky Breathes deep into the darkness Like everything is breathing With that heartbeat in the sand chorus

Spaces Between Kym Pitman It’s not what you’ve got … it’s not what I want Its not what we do…there’s no me or you In the spaces between We’re watching a star…bathed in light That’s faded away but it still shines bright Is it the past reaching for now Through the spaces between chorus Heavy traffic, too much traffic In your house and on the phone In my mind and on the road And there’s no time between Heavy traffic, too much traffic Need the spaces just to know is this some kind of paradise And should we be grateful? Can we take time for a little forgiveness and a little forget To loosen those regrets From the chains that hold us here Feel a moment’s solitude … know the moments blessed And swim in the river holy It’s not what you say… not what I leave unsaid It’s not what you know, what I’ve got to show and not what we’ve read It’s not what I take… not what you leave It’s not what I lose or what you grieve Not what we break or what we leave unbroken chorus Can we take time for a little forgiveness and a little forget To loosen those regrets From the chains that hold us here And feel a moment’s solitude… know the moments blessed And swim in the river holy

Hold you in a circle Kym Pitman Sometimes I feel like a stolen child Taken from the mother, taken from the wild Into concrete cradles and rocking to the grave Its time to rise up and stand up - there’s a big old world to save chorus She wants to hold you - she wants to love you And sing to you with running water and cry on you fresh tears of dew And kiss you with her sweet sweet breath and hold you in a circle Sometimes I wonder would the butterflies come If we let the grass grow longer making flowers at the sun If we rolled back the bitumen but kept walking on the street So the rocks and leaves and bones could feel beneath our feet? chorus There’s times I lay down just looking at the stars Feeling mighty lucky on this big old world of ours Feel her fire in my blood and her wind through my leaves May she carry us like stones through water in circles that we weave chorus

Sleeping Easy Kym Pitman I’ve got one foot stuck to the floor The other foot is trying to walk right on out the door I’m going round - round in circles And every day a day goes by Money in the bank for the mortgage and the car Consumer satisfaction superannuation Oh but I dream a simple dream With a slow burning fire - I can smell the dust and rain Under a big sky - sleeping easy sleeping easy And all this land I work so hard to own Still I know I just can’t own the land All I do is run my fingers through the sands of time And every day, nine to five Standing at the coalface just to keep it all in drive So one day I can live on the song of an oily swag With a slow burning fire - I can smell the dust and rain Under a big sky - feeling the land and sleeping easy These are the days we’re living now Give and take, love and break, full circle like the sun Still shining on our wanton ways Every day nine to five Standing at the coal face just to keep it all in drive So one day I might live on the song of an oily swag And every day a day goes by Money in the bank for the mortgage and the car Consumer satisfaction superannuation It all goes round in circles Slow burning fire - I can smell the dust and rain Under a big sky - walking the land and sleeping easy

Saltbush 05:55
Saltbush Kym Pitman There’s a desert lies between us Saltbush sand and fences Nothing breaks the distance like memories of home Through these endless miles and miles Straddling our lives I look into the memories of my peoples eyes. Through the Mallee, on the wheat belt Across the Hay plains, Wuridjeri Nothing breaks the distance like memories of home Through these endless miles and miles Straddling our lives I look into the memories of my peoples eyes. The faces merge and memories blend Thoughts roll like letters I’ll never send Because some feelings just can’t be said Night tuned into high beam now as we cross the great divide Big yellow moon take a hold of this empty sky As I come from you And I go to you Through these endless miles and miles Straddling our lives I look into the memories of my peoples eyes. There’s a desert lies between us Saltbush sand and fences When the distance can’t be broken And the dawn steals the sky Home becomes this place I know Out on the road with my wandering soul Home is just this moment out on this road I know Home is just this moment out on this road Home is just this moment I know Home is just this moment I know Home is just this moment…

Stormy water 04:53
Stormy Water Kym Pitman Been treading water and talking on eggshells Trying to find the right words to say what you really mean to Maybe it’s meaning that words can’t be found for And time gets older in the search chorus And so you cry like the plover cries On the tail of rain And if you break, you break like stormy water That rolls back in from the sea again Take yourself by the hand, down to the water That old wind sings timeless and true Get lost in an empty mind - there’s nothing to find Just the light changing your hue chorus Some times you’re the driftwood tossed up high upon the rocks And you don’t know where you come from You don’t know where you belong But you’re waiting for the tide to take you somewhere Sometimes you’re the old sand hill cut back and washed away Some great wave must have come up really high one day And left you rolling on a big tide Some times you’re a stolen treasure of the wild kept estranged And you’re searching for your place - your place And so you cry like the plover cries Calling for her mate on the tail of rain And if you break you break like stormy water That rolls back in from the sea again The sun on a salty face and the past leaves hardly its trace Just for this moment let it be

Every Day Kym Pitman Thanks to all of this of which I am a part, I say Thankyou for this day Thankyou to this sand I walk on Thankyou to this air I talk on But most of all I’d like to say Thanks for guiding me To make the right decisions for this big family chorus Long may we stand on this ground Learning to love with this land Just like she loves Just like she gives Every day Thanks to all of this of which I am a part I say Thankyou for this day Great sea eagle up so high The Osprey and the Brahminy kite Riding that same old wind Thanks for reminding me There’s so much we share in this big family Thanks to this old sun and water of which I am a part I say Thankyou for this day Thankyou to the elders To the innocence of children Who inherit everything we do and we say Thanks for guiding us always To be conscious in our choices for this big family

Yunnah Kym Pitman Wake up...waking up for the first time No-ones ever seen the sunshine on this day before With these eyes Under this sky So wake up to the new day Yunnah Yunnah Whispered mist where earth was kissed by dark Rising sun old river running past And no heart’s ever felt the river through this skin before And these eyes Under this sky So belong to the day Yunnah Yunnah

about

I would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land and pay my respects to elders, past present and emerging.

Thank you to the wild places on earth for the song-lines and storylines of connection you have to offer us if we take the time to listen.

This album is a journey through landscapes of song and musical imagery. It attempts to evoke a sense of place and belonging - to re -enliven ones presence amidst the colours, creatures, forms, textures and sounds of wild places- to re-enliven an inner expansiveness in connection with landscape.

“Casual, cool, calming and evocative. The clarity of the vocal and its delicate approach serve perfectly to carry the vast landscapes painted by the lyrics. Same can be said of the subtle instrumentation. To highlight particular tracks really would do a disservice to the album as a whole. Just know it really is food for the soul and best consumed complete. Definitely deserving of many a listen/repeat exploration.” (Matt Lawrence, Capital News, January 2011).

Kym’s voice is a wake-up call… it gives the unsung amongst us a voice, too, and a feeling of belonging to a greater cause (something that is much needed in our ‘worlds’ right now). Australian Stage

‘...clear and pure voice... rustic and romantic.’
(Bruce Elder - Sydney Morning Herald)

‘...truly beautiful... passionately written and delivered songs...terrific musicianship...’
(Warren Fahey)

‘...a uniquely female, Australian perspective brimming with heart, spirit, experience and a love of country’.
(Trad and Now Magazine)
